Subhashit Health & Education Social Welfare Trust

We the Subhashit health & education social welfare trust is the organisation of five members(Trusties) who has a vision to give something back to the society. We the trusties Ranjana Bharti, S.P.Suman, S.K.Gaurav, Amit Kumar & Divyajyoti Anand are the social worker who think and work for the welfare of the society. Once we were sitting and thinking about problems of our society then we found that there are so many problems in the society which can be solved through a simple way of doing. We contributed some wealth together started the work on free women health awareness campaign door to door in ruler areas. It was 2017 when a huge flood came in Simanchal area of Bihar. WE went for a relief camp in Araria and saw the suffering of people. Then we  continued work for the welfare of society. Now we are working in many sectors like health, education and social welfare programes.

The scheme tries to lay more emphasis on awareness and acceptance of sanitary pads rather than free distribution. Since local people are the best advisors, it includes the perspective of the whole society. Panchayat Mahila Sakhi promotes menstrual hygiene through local folk songs, slogans, radio messages and street plays.

Senior government officials and public representatives also actively participate in awareness campaigns to reduce the hesitation of women regarding menstrual hygiene management. Along with a What sApp group of active workers, regular meetings and daily updates on campaigns and distribution of sanitary pads keep other stakeholders engaged.

The topic of menstrual hygiene has been on the minds of policy makers for a long time. The Central Government’s MHM scheme was first launched across the country in the year 2014, which  progressed rapidly with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Apart from this, corporate have also played an important role in raising awareness towards this issue. As far as Subhashit is concerned, in this the local people are working for their village. Obviously people within the community are more aware of their needs than anyone else. So their involvement provided an easy and simple solution to the problem, which was lacking in earlier distribution networks and campaigns.

What is special about the community participation in this plan is a great learning for future corporate campaigns and other similar initiatives. While it aims to focus on access and acceptance, it also aims to break taboos surrounding menstruation.
